For the last few days Ive been getting the mssg IE cannot display the webpage when I go into yahoo %26amp; hotmail, %26amp; myspace. The mssg is usually not on the whole page but appears on top or on the left side. The only new prog. i downloaded is IE 7, but it was doing this even with IE 6. Ive tried numerous things such as..turning off my modem for a few mins to ck my connection %26amp; its fine. Ive gone to other sites w/o problems. I downloaded windows latest updates, the latest java se, windows script?, ck'd my firewall settings. I sent an email to msn to ask if theres a prob with there site, but no response yet. Im not sure how to get the url or http addresses of these sites in order to type them in myself?? Im at a LOSS, would someone please help me??

What muck are you talking about
Both browsers are setup to check to make themselves the default browser every time they are started. I am almost 100% sure you can disable this question by means of a checkbox in the same dialog box where you are prompted for this upon starting the browser.

As for uninstalling IE, I am not familiar with any non-hacking-related practices to do this. Simply don't use it, if you don't want to. :)

If you want to have a dashed border, you should use "dashed" not "dotted".

second problem, according to your css snippet, you have your table embeded into a paragraph, which is not correct html. You cannot have a table within a paragraph (although a paragraph within a table is fine).

third, Opera is very picky with code. if you have any error in it, it won't try as hard to guess what you meant (and this _is_ a good thing!).

Validate both your html and css code (check out w3c validators).

Ok, back on topic, the exact reason it doesn't work is that you didn't say how thick the border should be nor its color. No wonder nothing shows up. Here's a working example:

Have a look in your desk drawer, it could be there. A long shot, but you never know.
have you checked the settings for the keyboard i:e language and settings are all correct
I had the same problem and found it finally. Look on the bottom of the keyboard just above the bottom screw on the left side.
Do you have a US or UK keyboard and is it configured for the correct locale? Check those things and then tell us if you have a problem.
Looks like the keyboard layout as been changed. check the language setting and make sure its Uk not USA as that can change some of the key layout around like the @ button.
Perhaps one of your "hilarious" colleagues swapped the keys around? LoL!
You have been switched over to a US keyboard layout from a UK layout.

Go to all your services and stop all that you do not use and need. Go to task manager and stop all unneeded tasks. Try netscape or firefox browsers I use them all the time. Uninstall IE6 from add/remove programs and then manually go and search on your drive for IE and delete all that should not be there.Reinstall IE6. Reboot more often windows like that.

Used to have that problem also sometimes. It helped resetting the pc, but the ultimate solution was upgrading to IE7 (as back up browser) and use Firefox as main browser. It believe its just a bug (not sure).

I think you have to go to the Google home page and under LABS look for the google search bar download. Download it and then close your IE, reopen it and it should be there. Good luck.

Can't save attached doc files from IE but I can from FireFox!?

Hi,

Here is my problem: I received an email with 4 doc (not docx) files attached. On a newly installed Win XP SP2 with IE 6.0 I try to save (not open) the attached files one by one and the download window appears but nothing happens for aprox. 30 min. It is a 47k file. After 30 min. I stoped the download. There is no Estimated time, or speed reported. I open the same mail, from the same account with FireFox 2.0 and the doc files are saved.

What are you trying to open these files with? Do you have Office? a .doc file is a Microsoft Word file, so you need to have SOME kind of word processing program to open them, or else you open them in Notepad as text, not .doc. And your browser really doesn't have a darn thing to do with how you save an email. You don't download email, you save it.

If you don't have Microsoft Office, you need to get SOMETHING to use. Try Open Office Suite, a free complete office suite from Sun.

I've tried changing encoding. I've also tried going into the configuration and making sure show pictures was checked and show placeholders was not. I've run registry cleanup programs as well. I have no isses with Firefox at all. Unfortunately I have a work site I have to update regularly that I have to use IE to navigate.

Firefox is a superb browsing experience. Keep it. Dont worry about the small problems. If you have download yahoo beta (version under trial) then you may have some problems, they will fix it later.
On my other account so I can comment.

I didn't do anything wrong. It is my default web browser. Even if it wasn't, that wouldn't be affecting it. Anyone that hates Firefox, don't reply. I'm not switching to IE which is very unstable and would freeze on me all the time, and not even normal freeze but just wouldn't maximize again to where I could only close it thanks to task manager. And I did download it for Firefox. It automatically went to that one.

And thanks, The Advisors. I guess I'll deal. Having a secure browser is twenty more times important than just having a mail alert.

I am using Win XP and IE 7 and I have had numerous problems with yahoo mail and have tried and obviously messed up my Internet Options. Now I am still having problems with getting mail, (very slow to load) using DSL and if I do get to an email and delete or forward, it still doesn't go back to mail. My settings are really limiting me now and I need help so that I can have more than one page open on line. Now I get a warning when I close a page. It asks if I want to close all tabs. And no, I don't, but have no choice. Can someone please tell me how to set these again? Also, is there someway I can get better service with yahoo mail? This is driving me boonkers!! I'm only going to be able to offer one suggestion. Get rid of IE7 and go back to IE6 as long as you have Windows XP. All you have to do is click on STart, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and then find Internet Explorer 7. Click on the right side to remove it. After removal, close the control panel and restart the computer. I think you'll find many of your problems will be gone.

Not with Yahoo mail, that's really funky. If you are trying the new Beta mail, you are compounding your problems. That simply doesn't work. Best go back to the old tried and true until Yahoo and Microsoft get their problems worked out. Then maybe they'll fix what's wrong with their programs.

Yea, basically what "heyho B" said, it all comes down to pay. First off they wouldn’t have to waste so much money on cameras and other devices if they just paid their employees better. Than the employees would enjoy coming to work more then before, because they wont have to worry about having some one breath down their neck. It mostly due to bad management practices, some managers still try to apply the “Old Factory” style management. But that just doesn’t work anymore, research and studies show that managers would have to worry less about there employees slacking off if they just tried to understand what their employees needs are. But though pay really doesn’t affect performance as much as other things would .

Open IE, click on tools, then internet options. Go to programs tab. At the bottom you will see a radial box that says IE should check to see if it is the default browser. Yahoo doesn't work with the new firefox, it tells you it won't work with anything newer then if I recall correctly 1.5, we have the new version thats why I found out when I was trying to upload some pictures in the yahoo photo albums.

It actually tells you the version it will work with and that my version was too new.

What I did was open up IE first then yahoo and it opened using IE because it was already open.

are you running a firewall or antivirus program. if you are, DISABLE them. Got router? remove it from the network and try with out it, just a direct connection.

Win XP - Runtime error for win explorer and IE?

I have a new Dell XPS 400 running win XP. I have set up 3 users. Every once in a while, when I try to open Win Explorer (My Computer) or IE, it shows the following message and doesn't open the apps.

"MS Visual C++ Runtime Library - Program c:\Windows/explorer.exe: This app has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way..." . After this, when I look up the Task Manager, this app takes about 20 MB. In the normal case it takes up about 5 MB.

This problem happens randomly for any user and once it happens, there is no way to get it to work. I have to power cycyle the PC.

Also this is not a system wide problem. While one user has the problem, the the other user would be OK.

Any idea what the problem is? I got the latest windows updates and am running Mcaffee antivirus running automatically doing the updates...

Would really appreciate any help. Contacting Dell didn;t help much.

This is most likely a "stability" problem with XP that is inherent in the program. (Many complex programs have some instability!)

Don't feel bad, while I don't have that exact problem, I have similar problems with My XP.

Which exact problem appears depends on the Hardware, what you are running at the time, software versions, etc.

I have found no "sure" fix for the problem, and the microsoft techs are confused since it is an intermittent problem, and not repeatable on demand.

Especially since the error reports either are never generated, (no dialog box), or never match (have printed them out) exactly from time to time.

I just put up with it and hope it never interferes with something critical.

In my opinion, Thomas sounds more authorative than Tom. James more than John, Anthony more than Tony, Nathaniel more than Nathan, etc. The shortened version of the name sounds causual and friendly.

I have a good friend whose name is Timothy...all his friends call him Tim, I however, refer to him as Timothy...he says he likes it because it sounds respectful, whereas some people may think it sounds like a child's name. So, to really answer your question, it's all about one's own opinion.

I think you are right, just look at the names that are given to particular characters in books and films? All names have subliminal or overt associations (Adoph anyone?) but those short, snappy Tom's and Jack's are in my mind practical, capable people. Timothy is a crap name for a hero. Has Robert De Niro or Al Pacino ever played a character called Timothy, I think not. Maybe it's just a cultural thing.

My dad always said, "if you hang out with trash, you turn into trash." It is so true. It's not their fault for being poor (the kid) it's the kid's parents fault. It's in our best interest that those kids grow up wanting to be better than their parents however, I think we all need to pitch in by helping them out....charity events, contractors buying land and improving development in poor areas at reasonable costs, etc. Although I don't think the government should be hand feeding them, I think they do need help and some of it is beyond their control, however, they also need to get off their *** and do some work. We can also give them skills and make school graduation mandatory for them, so that they are confident and prepared for today's world. I think the goal should be for 90% of those graduates to want to go on to college....wouldn't that be something. I didn't say for them to be able to afford it, cause that's just asking too much, but for them to want it would be a start.

They need to be taught the skills to help themselves out...not throwing money at them so their habits don't change and they just use up the money while waiting for more money handouts. How does one gte "caught" for being poor? Just because someone is poor does not make thema criminal and that child has the choice to grow up and become a productive contributing memebr of society, just like everyone else.
Your argument would hold more water if every person who was born into that type of family turned out the same way. The problem is that some do and some don't so you have to look at other factors also. While most might there are still the exception explain that.

EDIT: so are you are going to insult me for having an opinion? So society should help them I agree. That is why I spent years working with under privileged kids which taught me that I can not judge them by their circumstances because there is something different within each of them. Good Question and not very many people consider children with parents like you mention. The children will suffer. In the Holy Bible, it tells that the Children will suffer for the sins of the parents unto the third and the fourth Generations of them who hate God. I prefer Mozilla though. Faster browser, no pop-ups, etc. You can have both open at the same time. I suggest importing all of your data from Internet Explorer upon startup of Firefox once you download it.

I like the idea of using different colored play dough . Use a thin board such as luan and create the shape of the state. Then add mountains from brown, carve out rivers, add blue for lakes ,etc. Seems simple enough to meet the requirements. You could add paper lables posted on toothpicks stuck into the dough before it hardens ifneeded.

Actually, Ive been using 7 beta for some months now, and have come to really like it.

To answer your question, you should see a button on the 7.0 toolbar that looks like a little grey gear with the word "tools" and a down-pointing arrow. Click the down arrow, go to "toolbars, then go over to "classic menu" and click it. that should give you your old familar menu back.

However, if you're unhappy with IE7, you can remove it from Start%26gt;%26gt;Control Panel%26gt;%26gt;Add/Remove. Once uninstalled, you should revert back to IE6.
IE in general is the WORST idea EVER.

Use FireFox. IT is free and soooooooooooooooooo much better and faster and SAFER!!!
when inside ie7 u can see the "menu bar" by pressing the "Alt" key. If u want it back permanently u will have to hack the registry. then there's always the third option 'switch' to a better browser - while the whole world is fiddling with firefox I beleive Opera is the best anyone can get.
it was ! right click on the tool bar and it will give you those options put a check by what you want to display. i had it and removed it , it caused me to have to reconfig my router then i removed it no problems.
Hey lets not forget that IE7 is a beta release and has lots of bugs to be fixed!

Though you might manage to get the menu back, it does slow down your system and downloading is a pain. I suggest you uninstall it and use ie6 or Firefox.

I was trying to download a 50mb file(large to me due to dialup) and after hit hit the 10mbs downloaded part it says download complete????it took me quite some time to even download that much and it just cuts off?this was in firefox by the way.is there a erm... security feature or something that i need to turn off?

So then i decided to try in IE and sure enough right at the 10mb point it says download complete.This is where my security feature hypothesis was formulated.why would 2 different browsers both cut off at the same point? I've looked thru the download options on both browsers and found no luck. I'm using vista home premium btw.maybe the security feature has to do with vista?

Any help appreciated.

I have had the same problem before and it was because of the source i was downloading from.

Try getting the file else wear and use a download manager like Download Accelerator etc...
